Digital Detox
In a world where everything is so connected, the notifications from social media, work, school, and loved ones can get overwhelming. Our devices have made it hard to take a step away when it makes us so available.
At WhistleStop, we prioritize connecting with nature. There is something so calming about being in nature. Every year, I prioritize spending a week minimizing phone use and putting my phone away, and I notice that it has been getting harder as I get older because of how connected you continue to become with work, responsibilities, social media, family/friends, and more!
I think it is important to reflect on the benefits of a digital detox. This includes reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, increased focus, increased clarity, increased work life balance, and reconnection with present moments. Stress levels and disruption of circadian rhythms are a few negative effects of the blue light from electronic devices. When you are constantly recieving notifications, it is hard to concentrate on one thing. By connecting with nature and disconnecting with your phone, you can experience an increase in focus, clarity, mindfulness, and presence.
I recommend setting boundaries and letting perople know, leaving your device at home sometimes when you need a break, finding ways to engage in nature through volunteering at whistlestop, hiking, camping, swimming, or kayaking, disconnecting at smaller steps, and allowing yourself to reflect.
The benefits of being in nature are apparant every time I am at the ranch. I feel such a sense of calmness, clarity, and connection with living in the moment at WhistleStop Acres. The power of being in nature and spending time outdoors builds gratitude and can alter your perspective.
I would encourage you to think about digital detox in a holistic way, letting it recharge your mind, refresh your spirit, and reconnect you with nature and the present moment.
